October 6th Class

Today we watched two presentations from our Plan B textbook. The first was on chapter 7: Eradicating Poverty and Stabilizing Population. The main point of this chapter was to discuss issues about universal healthcare, education, and how to fix issues with the rising population.
The issue is that there is not enough education in developing countries when it comes to safe sex and safe general health. The people in these developing countries are making too many babies too fast and they do not have the proper resources to ensure that these children are healthy and well fed rather than disease ridden and malnourished. These people need to be educated in how to prevent unwanted pregnancies, to feed their children, and to prevent disease. There is a lot of debate over whether providing the world with free healthcare would help to eradicate poverty and to help the population survive. With the healthcare, all people would have access to the help they needed and this would help to keep people from dying even if there was an easy fix to the problem. Education to people is also a major issue that is discussed and something that is really necessary to help with the issues of eradicating poverty and stabilizing the population. With education, the people would know how to have safe sex to prevent the unwanted pregnancies and help stop the spread of disease. Education could also help the people to know how to get the food that they need more accessible. Other nations could contribute to this by providing aid in the form of money or tools to help people in these developing countries. On that note, it is also important to provide education to the people in developed countries on healthier habits and safer sex because they need it too. The point of education in both areas may be different, but they are both necessary to stabilize the population and keep people healthy.

Chapter 8 was Restoring the Earth. A lot of this chapter had to do with issues in deforestation, which releases a lot of carbon in the air and destroys land. We are losing too many trees and destroying animals habitats for the creation of paper, factories, farmland, and agricultural areas. We are losing what little is left of our rainforests to this issue and creating so many more problems within the environment. To help eradicate the problems that deforestation caused we could plant more trees and completely stop deforestation, using unused plots of clear land and reusing empty buildings rather than continuing to tear down forests. Additionally, using less paper would change so much. We need to help protect the Earth's soil and to rebudget our spending so that we spend more on restoring the environment.
